How to Crochet a Gummy Bear

Hi everyone! For today’s free weekly pattern, I will be sharing my gummy bear crochet pattern!

These bears are fluffy, tiny, and so cute! They make great keychain accessories and will bring a smile to your face whenever you see them! They also make for amazing gifts when you want to give your loved ones something special and homemade.

Supplies you’ll need:

  • 4 mm crochet hook
  • Chenille velvet yarn, size 3-4 (I used an off-brand yarn that didn’t list the size, but just go with something like Loops & Threads Skinny Chenille Yarn and you’ll be good!
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Plastic eyes (8 mm) and nose (6mm)
  • A good pair of scissors. And girlllll, if you don’t have the nice, pointy pair that actually works, go get yourself one cause you deserve it!

Alright, now that you have the supplies we can start on the project!

1st row: Sc 8 in a magic ring. (8 stitches total)

2nd row: Inc around. (16 stitches total)

3rd row: (Sc 3x, inc) repeat around. (20 stitches total)

4th-6th rows: Sc around. (20 stitches total)

7th row: (Sc 3x, dec) repeat around. (16 stitches total)

Now that you’ve made it this far, girl go get you the eyes and the nose. You’re gonna put the nose on the 2nd decrease of row 7, or on the 10th sc of row 6. The eyes are gonna go one stitch up, then 2 to the side, on both sides. They might look a lil crooked but trust, that’s gonna go away when you stuff it.

8th row: Dec around. (8 stitches total)

9th row: (Sc, inc) repeat around. (12 stitches total)

10th row: (2 sc, inc) repeat around. (16 stitches total)

11th-14th rows: Sc around. (16 stitches total)

Alright Queen! Now that you got all but the last row done, you’re gonna stuff the bear! I don’t got any tips for this, just do as much or as little as you want to cause it’s your life Queen!

15th row: Dec around. (8 stitches total)

Last step, cut the yarn and leave about 6 inches remaining, then weave the end through each sc and pull tight (But girl, do NOT snap that yarn!). That’s gonna close the hole up so its insides don’t fall out. Then you can stuff the remaining yarn in the bear and the body is finished!

The next step is the ears! You’re gonna get a slip knot on the hook and then start crocheting directly on the head. For the first ear, go three stitches to the side of the right eye, and one stitch up, and start there. Sc 3, then turn without chaining and sc 3 again. That’s gonna be 2 rows, then just cut the yarn and pull it through the starting point into the body.

For the second ear, start at the top of the head, directly across where the other ear is, and then sc 3 down. At the end of the row you should be 3 stitches across and one above the left eye, just mirroring the first ear. Then turn, again, without chaining, and sc 3 more, then cut the yarn and pull it through the starting point into the body.

Last but not least, we got the arms, the legs, and (optionally) the tail. For all of these, you’re gonna sc 6 in a magic circle, and then sc 6 again. To sew them on, it’s 2 stitches across, then 1 down, then 2 across, then 1 up, so it comes full circle. Also, you don’t gotta stuff the arms, legs, or tail, they’re perfect unstuffed. You’re gonna need 4 of them, if you aren’t doing the tail, and 5 of them if you are.

But girl! If you made it to the end, I’m proud of you! You finished the project, Queen! And now you got this cute baby bear to bring a little starshine in your life!
